Riverside Community College Paramedic Training

Located near Evans Park, Riverside Community College District offers a comprehensive paramedic training program. Part of Moreno Valley College, the course instruction takes place at the Ben Clark Training Center, on Bundy Avenue in Riverside California. The EMS program at Riverside Community College is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

Program Information

The Emergency Medical Technician courses are 7 units in length and require a student to take EMS 50 and EMS 51 concurrently. Effective the summer of 2012, each unit is $46.00, with additional costs of approximately $500. These additional costs include: fees for a mandatory uniform, books, a background check, immunization verification, etc.

Program prerequisites for the EMT-Basic are:
must have a valid driver’s license
have a high school diploma or the equivalent
must be 18 years of age
pass a physical examination

Students are also required to attend a mandatory orientation. At this orientation potential students will receive additional application specifics, and required prep class information. Other prerequisites will be detailed in the orientation.

The Paramedic courses at Riverside Community College begin in September of each year. The classes are a full time program, 49.5 units, and take approximately one year to complete. Students meet Monday – Friday.
Admission is obtained by application only, which can be found online.

Program prerequisites for EMT-Paramedic:

  • must have a valid driver’s license
  • have a high school diploma or the equivalent
  • must be 18 years of age
  • pass a physical examination
  • must pass a background check
  • must have current immunization records
  • must pass drug screening - and stay drug free
  • must be EMT certified prior to entering paramedic program
  • may not have received a dishonorable military discharge
  • must have successfully completed specific math, English anatomy and physiology courses
  • must hold a current CPR card

Potential paramedic course students must also provide proof of at least one-year and 2000 hours of EMS work experience as an EMT-I. At least half of the prior internship must be in a pre-hospital setting. Students are also required to attend a mandatory orientation. At this orientation potential students will receive further application information. Other prerequisites and requirements will be detailed in the orientation. This includes information about the prep classes, which are 2 weeks in length.

In addition, Medical Terminology and English Composition are courses an individual should have mastered, in order to be successful in the program.

The cost of the program is $46. for the units, for a total cost of $2,277.00. There are additional fees for the physical examination and immunization records. Other fees may apply to the program as well and the charges above are subject to change.

Additional Information

Individuals interested in Riverside Community College may register and apply online, or pick up an application in person. The application process will include submitting high school transcripts and setting up a student email. Applications are accepted by the college up to 3 months prior to the start of each program. Financial aid information is also available during this process. Applications to enroll in the upcoming September program must be received by June 1st. There are required prep classes that meet approximately 4 weeks prior to the start of each program.

In order to be admitted into the program, a full application must be submitted. Once your application is received, the school will contact you via letter with a date to attend orientation. During the orientation, you will be given dates for the paramedic prep class. This class helps determine your placement in the program. Instructions for registration will be given at the end of the class.
