The Orlando Medical Institute EMT paramedic training program offers students the necessary courses for certification at the highest level of EMT paramedic. A paramedic training certificate program and an Associate of Applied Science in Paramedical degree is offered through Orlando Institute. The Institute also offers a Tactical Medical Operator (TMO) certification program, as well as many other EMS certification courses.
The Orlando Medical Institute is located in Orlando, Florida at 1650 Sand Lake Road. Sand Lake Road intersects with highway 92. Along the strip with the building the Orlando Medical Institute is in there is a Kmart and an Olive Garden. SkyView Plaza is the name of the shopping center that is located next to the institute.
Program Schedule
The paramedic education program offered through the Orlando Medical Institute consists of 10 months (1146 hours) of classroom lectures and labs and clinical time. The hours are broken down as 546 classroom and lab, 264 hours of clinical instruction, which is spent in the OB, Pediatrics, ER, Medical Examiner and as a physician shadow. The final 336 hours are an externship spent in rescue/ambulance services.
These Orlando Medical Institute credit hours will include: anatomy and physiology, principles of microbiology, theory of patient assessment, management and operations assessment, theory of paramedic essentials to include airway management and ventilation, medical, OB/GYN, neonatal, behavior and trauma emergencies, and emergency medical services operations.
Day shift classes fall on three different days, shifts A, B, and C and meet from 9 am to 4 pm. The night shift program will meet on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6 pm to 10 pm and every other Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm. A new work friendly course is being introduced and will meet on either Monday from 1 pm to 5 pm or Tuesday from 6 pm to 10 pm and Thursday from 1 pm to 5 pm or Friday from 6 to 10 pm.
Program Prerequisites
The following requirements must be met in order to be accepted into the paramedic courses:
- CPR certification BLS for health care providers
- Drivers license or Social Security Card
- Current TB test
- Proof of MMR and Varicella vaccinations
- Current EMT certification in the state of Florida
- Level 1 criminal background check
- High school diploma or GED
- Physical examination dated within 6 months of program start
