Thomas Jefferson University Hospital/JeffSTAT

The Thomas Jefferson University Hospital/JeffSTAT has a paramedic training program that offers EMT training students the necessary courses for certification at the EMT-Basic level on through to paramedic.

Thomas Jefferson University Hospital/JeffSTAT is located in Philadelphia, PA, just minutes away from several major roads and within walking distance of several public transportation services. The main campus is located off I-95 at exit 22, at 8th and Chestnut.

Program Information

The Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic education program is offered as a full-time (day) program and is set up in a way that prepares paramedic candidates to learn advanced life support skills to patients in a pre-hospital environment. The university also offers a part time class which takes place is in the evenings and starts every 18 months.

The paramedic training that is offered through the school has classes that meet every Tuesday and Thursday and every other Wednesday from September through August. There are additional classes for EMT training certification that may meet on different days. The course consists of didactic hours, 400 clinical hours and 250-400 in-field internship hours. Additional clinical hours may be required and these are based on individual needs.

Program Prerequisites

The following requirements must be met in order to be eligible for the program:

  • must hold current EMT-basic certification
  • must be over the age of 18
  • must possess a high school diploma or GED
  • must pass an EMT-basic pretest, complete a HOBET exam with a passing score that shows math and reading at a high school level or above
  • must pass a criminal background check
  • must obtain child abuse clearance from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • must have current health insurance
  • must have completed a college level of Anatomy & Physiology I & II
  • must have completed a college level of English and Math

Additional Information

Student will complete approximately 400 hours of clinical experience through the Thomas Jefferson (Level 1 Trauma Center) paramedic program. The clinicals will include field work at many of the hospital’s affiliates and will include 240- to 400-hour field internship with Philadelphia Fire Rescue and surrounding providers.

Tuition is currently $10,950, and a $600 registration fee. Tuition may be paid on a monthly or quarterly basis. Financial Aid is not available at this time. The University offers tuition discount fees if you “bring a buddy” and both enroll in the paramedic program.
