EMSTI is one of the oldest paramedic schools in the Northern part of California. The program was started in 1979 in Stockton, CA. The curriculum is dedicated to preparing students to enter the pre-hospital medical care profession. They offer post-graduate support through both continuing education and quality improvement programs.
Program Information
EMSTI offers three different locations for their EMT education courses. The Sacramento program is located in Rancho Cordova and offers two training courses a year beginning in May and November. The Valley Program is located in Stockton and classes begin in January and July of each year. The Bay Area Program, located in Livermore has programs that start in March and September.
The EMS paramedic courses will include: anatomy and physiology, principles of microbiology, theory of patient assessment, management and operations assessment, theory of paramedic essentials to include airway management and ventilation, medical, OB/GYN, neonatal, behavior and trauma emergencies, and emergency medical services operations.
The cost for the program is approximately $8900. However, EMSTI offers several different payment plans to meet individual needs, including a 24-month payment program. This can help you achieve your educational goals at an affordable rate.
Once the EMSTI course of study is completed, students will be qualified to take the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Examination (NREMT).
Enrollment Prerequisites
- must have a valid driver’s license
- have a high school diploma or the equivalent
- must be 18 years of age
- pass a physical examination
- must pass a background check
- must have current immunization records
- must pass drug screening - and stay drug free
- must possess EMT-B or EMT-II certification recognized by the state of CA
- may not have received a dishonorable military discharge
- must hold a current CPR card
It is also recommended potential students have college level courses in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and EKG interpretation.
In addition, proof of employment as an EMT for at least one year is required.

or by calling the office at (209)461-5550. The application will be screened by the education committee of the school. If you meet the minimum requirements, an interview will be set up through a letter of acknowledgement. At the time of the interview, a written exam may be given as well.
After reviewing your application and test, you may receive an acceptance letter for pre-enrollment. At this time, all documentations as well as your deposit will need to be submitted before you are officially enrolled. The program is filled on a first come first serve basis, so it is important to register early.
