The Texas Emergency Medical Training Services Paramedic School offers students the necessary courses for certification at the highest level of EMT paramedic. A paramedic training certificate program and an Associate of Applied Science in Paramedical degree is offered.
The main facility of the Emergency Medical Training Services is located at 7000 Independence Parkway, in Plano, Texas. However, the programs offered through the school are located around the state. EMTS has been offering emergency medical classes for over 16 years and has just recently added a paramedic program to their curriculum.
Program Information
The paramedic education certification includes both didactic and clinical skill experiences. The paramedic program provides high excellence for education in the ability and science of pre-hospital advanced life support EMS care.
The program offered through EMTS works in shifts to accommodate individuals working as firefighters and EMTs. Day and night shift programs are available. The course takes approximately seven months to complete. Class meets every third day; except for Sundays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Classes are limited to 35 students. Courses for basic are at nights 6:00pm to 10:00 pm and Saturday’s 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The courses start every three months.
The current tuition for the Paramedic course is $3,675. The basic course is 1,525.00. This includes the cost of books, study materials, lab supplies, and insurance. Additional costs include uniforms, drug test, prep review class, testing fees, goggles, trauma shears, and stethoscope, application fees, and finger printing fees.
Program Prerequisites
- must have a valid driver’s license
- must be 18 years of age
- must pass a background check
- must have current immunization records
- must pass drug screening - and stay drug free
- must be EMT certified prior to entering paramedic program
- may not have received a dishonorable military discharge
- must have successfully completed ENG 101 or take the college placement exam and score into ENG 101
- must hold a current CPR card
In addition to these prerequisites, prior EMS experiencer is preferred. Not mandatory, but it is recommended.
