Delaware Technical Community College EMS Training

The paramedic program provided by Delaware Technical Community College (DTCC) via their Allied Health Department is the only paramedic program in the state of Delaware recognized and held up by the Delaware Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS).

Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, this school meets state of Delaware standards, and assures a student who successfully completes the DE Technical paramedic program to be licensed and qualified to work in the state of Delaware.

This EMS program is made up of at least 77 credits of coursework, taking place over six semesters, and, if successfully completed, leads to an Associate in Applied Science Degree. It follows the guidelines for the Paramedic National EMS Education Standards and meets all requirements for paramedic certification by the State of Delaware and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). This program is offered at the Dover campus.

Training consists of classroom skills and on site learning, including training for patient assessments, patient stabilization, extrication techniques, scene management, advanced life support procedures, patient transportation, and timely decision making. Legal decisions, team leadership, and emergency scene assessment will be part of the education. The Delaware Technical Community College Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

Completion of the program qualifies a student to become an EMT-Paramedic, Flight Paramedic, and/or a Critical Care Paramedic. Currently, Delaware licensed paramedics can earn a salary ranging from $35,000 - $40,000.

There are additional requirements for pursuing training in each region, and details of these are fairly common state to state. Read the articles found in EMT Training Top Tips and Paramedic Training Best Tips for details and a list of these requirements.
