The Center for Emergency Medicine is located at 230 McKee Place, Suite 500 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The center is located just off Forbes Avenue and is very easy to locate. The Magee Women’s’ Hospital of UPMC is only two blocks away.
Program Schedule
The Center for Emergency Medicine offers both a full time and a part time program. The full time program takes 38 weeks to complete and takes place at the center’s Oakland location. Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays during the afternoon and evening. Practical laboratories take place in the mornings on Mondays and Wednesdays. The course consists of eight lecture classes and four practical labs that occur over a period of two semesters. Students are responsible for completing all of their clinical and field rotations on days that classes are not held.
The part time program takes place over the course of 50 weeks. The class meets at St. Margaret Hospital on Tuesday and Thursday nights and practical skills classes are held on Wednesday mornings. Students will need to schedule clinical and field rotations on non class days.
Program Prerequisites
Admission into the program is highly competitive, and the school recommends completing your application early for this reason. Students must be at least 18 years old, a high school graduate (or equivalent), have current certification as an EMT and be capable of all duties as described in the functional job description.
Along with the application, students must submit a copy of their EMT and CPR certification cards, high school and college transcripts, and two sealed letters of evaluation.
After acceptance into the program, students will be expected to pay a $300 deposit to hold their seat in the class. The cost of the program is $5700 for in region residents, $7300 for in state residents, and $12300 for out of state residents. This does not include the cost of books, housing, health insurance, food, or parking.
