Ventura College EMT Paramedic School

The Ventura College EMT paramedic program offers potential students the necessary courses for certification at the highest level of paramedic. A paramedic certificate program and an Associate of Applied Science in Paramedical degree are offered through Ventura College. This program meets the standards set forth by the U.S. Department of Transportation National Standard Training and is the only accredited paramedic school in the county.

Ventura College is located in Ventura, California on Telegraph Road. The campus location is near Camino Real Park on one side and Arroyo Verde Park is nearby on the other side. Ventura College offers the only accredited paramedic program in Ventura County.

Program Information

The application deadline for applying to the paramedic program through Ventura College is available through the health sciences department of the school. Applicants that qualify for the program will be admitted into the program in order of applications that are received.

In order to complete the certificate of achievement for EMS certification, students must complete the EMT course, paramedic theory, and paramedic clinical lab. Additional required courses for the program are human anatomy and physiology. For individuals wishing to receive an associate’s degree, there are general education requirements as well.

The paramedic EMT certification program includes both didactic and clinical skill experiences. The paramedic program provides high excellence for education in the ability and science of pre-hospital advanced life supportEMS care.

Once the program is successfully completed, students will be qualified to take the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Examination (NREMT).

Program Prerequisites

In order to qualify for the paramedic program students must have graduated from high school with a GPA of 2.5 or higher or completed their GED with a score of 45 and at least 12 semester units of college coursework completion. All high school and college transcripts must be on file with the college. Additionally, students must apply to the program through the health sciences department with the option of enrollment in the associate degree program or the certificate degree program. Students must also fill out an application for the college, which is for the appropriate semester.

Before entering the program, students must have a satisfactory score on the English and math entrance examinations through Ventura College. An anatomy and physiology class must be taken; the class must be approved through the college.

Students are also required to:

  • possess a valid driver’s license
  • be 18 years of age
  • must pass a background check
  • must have current immunization records
  • must pass drug screening - and stay drug free
  • must be EMT certified prior to entering paramedic program
  • may not have received a dishonorable military discharge
  • must have successfully completed ENG 101 or take the college placement exam and score into ENG 101
  • must hold a current CPR card

Additional Information

Ventura College allows potential students to apply online and register for classes online. The college also has Spanish/Espanola admissions and applications available, as well as application for students currently enrolled in a in high school.
