Grayson County College is located in Denison, Texas. The campus is located on State Highway 691. The college offers a certificate of completion in Emergency Medical Services in Paramedicine. The paramedic training certification program includes both didactic and clinical skill experiences. The paramedic program provides high excellence for education in the ability and science of pre-hospital advanced life support EMS care.
Program Information
The EMT-Paramedic course for Grayson County College does not require a pre-acceptance process. If entering into the EMT paramedic program the applicant must hold current EMT/Basic certification in order to enroll in any advanced level courses. Prior to beginning the program offered by Grayson College, students are expected to begin in the fall or spring semester and complete 9 semester hours. The classes include EMT basic, EMS operations, and EMT Clinicals. The fall semester of prerequisite courses includes Intro to Advance Practice, Pt. Assess and Airway, and Trauma Management, which is 15 semester hours.
The winter mini-semester will consist of an EMT clinical course (2434). Following in the spring, students will complete a cardiology course, medical emergencies, and special populations. A spring mini-mester will consist of EMT Clinical (2462). Summer one semester will consist of assessment based management and EMT clinical (2243).
The approximate cost of the course includes tuition and fees of $2924, course fees of $210, criminal background check and drug screen fees of $84, and $180 for insurance. Books are, approximately $1235. Additional fees include $228 for supplies, $175 for uniforms, and $251 for certification fees. The puts the (approximate) total just over $5,000 for the two year program.
Enrollment Prerequisites
To be eligible for the advanced EMS curriculum, students must pass the National Registry examination for EMTs and complete the proper certification of the Record of National Registry of EMTs or Texas Department of State Health Services EMT/Basic certification.
Basic prerequisites include:
- must have a valid driver’s license
- have a high school diploma or the equivalent
- must be 18 years of age
- pass a physical examination
- must submit fingerprints for a Texas/FBI criminal history background check
- must have current immunization records/ within 6 months of course starting date
- must pass drug screening - and stay drug free
- must be EMT certified prior to entering paramedic program
- may not have received a dishonorable military discharge
- pass the THEA Test and be completed in the GCC Learning Center
- must hold a current CPR card
