Hudson County Community College’s EMT paramedic training program offers students the necessary courses for certification at the highest level of EMT paramedic. Hudson County College is a public college which offers paramedic school candidates a paramedic certificate, associate’s degree, and transfer and career training programs. The school actively collaborated with Jersey City Medical Center (JCMC), and the college offers paramedic training programs through its Health, Science and Technology Division. This program meets the standards set forth by the U.S. Department of Transportation National Standard Training and the OMES - New Jersey State Department of Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services.
Hudson County Community College’s Journal Square campus (the main campus) is conveniently located in the heart of Hudson County, less than 20 minutes from New York City and the Newark Liberty International Airport.
Program Information
The paramedic program consists of 47 course credit hours, as well as required fieldwork. It can be completed in as little as 3 semesters.

Program Prerequisites
Entrance to the Hudson County Community College paramedic program has several requirements, including an application process. The basic requirements include:
A High School diploma or GED
Be 18 years of age
Current CPR Certification Card (HCP)
Current EMT training certification
Valid New Jersey driver’s license
Pass a physical examination
Pass a background check

For a paramedic certificate, candidates must be sponsored by JCMC (Jersey City Medical Center) and must have a completed associate’s degree in order to enroll in the EMT paramedic certificate program. Course work in anatomy, physiology, composition and health related mathematics is necessary.
The Associate of Applied Science in Paramedic Science degree has the same prerequisites, yet the program has a total of 63 academic credits which include a paramedic professional curriculum at JCMC of 30 credits, and 33 additional general education credits, which are completed at HCCC (Hudson County College Center). The AAS paramedic program requires five semesters of didactic coursework, lab work and hands-on practical training.
Tuition and fees are established on a yearly basis at Hudson County Community College. In addition to tuition, students are required to carry the cost of books, uniforms and testing fees for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Scholarships and financial aid are available.
