The College of the Redwoods paramedic education program takes place at McKinleyville Instructional Site. This is located in the shopping center in McKinleyville at 1520 Center Road. Also known as the North Coast Paramedic Program, it is located approximately 25 minutes north of the main campus in Eureka.
Program Information
The program consists of 33 units and enrollemnt is only available to individuals that have obtained EMT 1 certification. The EMS paramedic program begins in the fall and ends in the summer with an internship. The fall and spring classes take place on Fridays starting at 2 pm and ending at 9:30 pm and on Saturdays, beginning at 8 am and ending at 4:30 pm. Eleven units are completed in the fall, 13 units are completed in the spring, and the summer internship consists of 9 units. The cost of the program is approximately $3200, which includes books, program fees, fingerprinting costs, a criminal background check, uniforms, and additional certification costs.
Enrollment Prerequisites
Proof of high school diploma or GED will need to be submitted when applying for the EMT education courses. Applicants must submit an official transcript showing a grade of C or better for both English and math assessments. Individuals will need to have current certification as an EMT-1, EMT II, or basic registration through NREMT. Additionally, current certification in health care provider CPR is required. A current physical examination along with proof of immunizations will be necessary to enroll in the program as well.
