Established in 2001 in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, the Action Training Academy has full courses for Basic Ambulance Assistant training and Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. The Action Training Academy now operates as a national training operation, with branches in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape and Eastern Cape. The Academy answers a request for those interested in paramedic training, as well as other emergency service training.
The Action Training Academy Action Training Academy features course training in emergency services including emergency evacuation procedures, firefighting, and first aid training, and paramedic training. The courses start with First Aid and Basic Life Support, which is the entry level to entry level to paramedic training.

Action Training Academy’s paramedic training courses include American Heart Association courses and Continual Professional Development (CPD) courses.
The Basic Life Support Course is designed for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. These will help provide training for healthcare providers such as doctors and their assistants, nurses and nursing students, paramedics, medical technicians, medical therapists of all degrees, registrars, interns, medical aides, etc.
The Course is also a prerequisite for advanced courses in resuscitation, including Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Neonatal Life Support (ANLS), Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) and BLS Instructor Courses.
Action Academy program states: “The Course comprises 38 modules and teaches the skills of CPR and choking for victims of all ages, including ventilation with barrier devices, pocket masks, bag-valve-mask devices with supplemental oxygen, and the use of Automated External Defibrillators. An 80-page BLS for Healthcare Providers Student Manual and CD-ROM is provided to each participant for review before, during and after the Course. For successful completion of the Course, participants will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in CPR and AED use, and obtain a score of at least 85% in the final written evaluation.”
The Basic Ambulance Assistant training course is offered to individuals who desire a career in the emergency management services. Upon assessment and passing of the course, the participant may register with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, as a professional emergency care practitioner.
The paramedic training course contents include an introduction to Ambulance service responsibilities with instruction in: Professional Practice, Traumatology, Emergency Care, Ambulance Technology and Ambulance Practice
The Academy programs states, “Medical management principles and techniques will be taught up to basic life support level including methods of airway control, cardio pulmonary resuscitation and the Emergency first aid of critically ill patients. Candidates will also be introduced to the role of Ambulance service administration, rescue and technical support service. Thorough training in medical management principles is the basis to care in any crisis situation. However, the job of a professional emergency care practitioner is not complete without organizational administration to deal with an emergency. Management services comprise part of the courses run at Action Training Academy, and skills learned on these courses will ensure competence and correct handling in an emergency.”
