EMSTA College EMT Paramedic Program

EMSTA College has an EMT paramedic training program that offers EMT training students the necessary courses for certification at the EMT-Basic level on through to EMT paramedic.

EMSTA is located in Santee, California. The campus is located just off the San Vincente Freeway, not far from Shadow Hills Park. The Paramedic and EMT programs offered through EMSTA have been accredited through CAAHEP since November of 2007.

Program Schedule

The EMT paramedic program offered through the college consists of 1249 training hours. This includes 340 hours didactic, 220 hours of skills and labs, 160 hours clinical experience that takes place at a hospital, and 529 hours in a field internship.

The first part of the EMT training paramedic program or didactic phase meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 am to 5 pm. On Thursdays, students will either meet with a mentor, attend lab, or a ride along from 9 am to 3 pm. The course takes 11 months to complete and upon completion a course completion certificate will be given.

The paramedic program courses begins in January and the total cost of the program including books is $11,000. There is financial aid and payment plan options to help students pay for the program.

Program Prerequisites

When submitting for an interview to enrol in the EMT paramedic program the following items will be required:
1. A copy of your high school diploma or GED
2. Current Resume
3. EMT-B Certification
4. CPR certification at the health care provider level
5. Proof of at least one year of experience as an EMT
6. SLE test score of 20 or above
7. Completed Paramedic prep course
8. Completed anatomy and physiology course
9. Social Security Card and Driver’s license, DMV ambulance driver’s license, and Medical Examiner certificate (firefighters exempt)

After being accepted into the training program, prospective students must submit a background check and drug screening through emstabackgroundcheck.com. In addition, a complete application must be filled out and two letters of recommendation must be received. Students must supply proof of vaccinations along with current medical insurance information as well. These include:

    • Annual tuberculosis screening: Mantoux tuberculosis test or if positive, Health Departments guidelines for follow up.
    • Positive titer to MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) or vaccination against same or a physician’s statement of disease concerning MMR.
    • Varicella immunity (chicken pox).
    • Immunizations: Tetanus immunization within the past 5 years.
    • Vaccine/immunity Hepatitis B is recommended.
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination
    • H1N1 vaccination
