Paramedic Qualities: Courage

When you become a paramedic, courage is an essential characteristic that makes you a effective paramedic. Your duty as a paramedic is to be strong when others are weak. If the job is done correctly, a paramedic’s job is one of the best jobs with high rewards. You get to save people when no one else can. Every day on the job is different which makes it a great reason to be a paramedic.

The role of a paramedic is to give emergency care when there is an emergency that has harmed the patient or that can harm the patient. The person may be a victim of a crime or can be a victim in an emergency such as a accident. You are then responsible for that person until they are released to the care of a medical professional either in an emergency room or other medical facility.

Your duties as a paramedic will ask you to be strong for this person and to show them that you are not scared. If the patient feels that you are being strong and courageous for them, then they will be that much stronger. In instances where someone could die, this is essential for giving them the strength that they need to either move on or to fight.

The other duties that you will be handling are the paperwork and filing of the paperwork for the records of that patient. You must ensure that you have the permission to treat and care for this patient and must pass this information over to the hospital staff as well. This ensures that the medical staffs as well as yourself are being held responsible for what each of jobs has had you doing for the patient.

In most cases, the first person on the scene of an accident or a crime is the paramedics. In this case, you are going to be giving the patient or victim the courage to be strong. When you first get to the scene of an accident or when arriving to the scene of a crime, when a paramedic is needed, you will be assessing what is going on with the patient. There are going to be times that the patient is unable to speak for themselves and in this case, you must speak for them. Courage has a large part to do with everything that you do as a paramedic.
