One of the first certifications necessary to become an EMT is CPR. CPR is actually a skill taught in basic life support trianing, which is what all EMT’s need to know very well. Basic First Aid certification is also a course that should be considered for anyone thinking about becoming an EMT. These two classes combined provide a basic look at emergency care and how to respond at a basic level. Both courses are a great place to start and in many cases you may be required to take them and have the certification prior to enrolling in an EMT basic course.
