EMT Paramedic Training Program at Bevill State
Bevill State Community College has three certification courses offering EMT training and/or EMT paramedic training, offered at three Bevill State campuses.
1. Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMS), which is a Short-term Certificate. This EMT training program is available at the Bevill State Fayette, Hamilton & Sumiton Campuses.
2. Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT-P), the Long-term certificate. This EMT paramedic training program is available at the Bevill State Hamilton & Sumiton Campuses.
3. Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT-P), the Associate in Applied Science Degree. This EMT paramedic training program is available at the Bevill State Hamilton & Sumiton Campuses.

The Emergency Medical Technician program at Bevill State Community College is designed to provide the training necessary for successful completion of the requirements for certification as an EMT paramedic (Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic -EMT-P). The paramedic training program enables the student to take the National Registry of EMTs Paramedic Exam. Upon completion of EMT paramedic training and successful passing of the exam, the student can obtain an Alabama EMT paramedic license.
EMT and Paramedic Program Information
Applicants to both the EMT Training - Basic program and the paramedic training program must:
• pass a minimum composite score of 19 on the ACT exam
• be a high school graduate
• comply with the Essential Functions of the program
• provide a current (within the last 6 months) physical exam
• have up-to-date immunizations
• pass drug screening
• possess health insurance
In addition, applicants who have completed EMT training and plan to advance to the EMT paramedic training program must possess a valid, unencumbered Alabama Advanced-EMT license prior to entering the clinical portion of the EMT-Paramedic course. The individual must also possess a current CPR card.
You may submit a printed application by mail or in person to the Office of Student Services on the campus you plan to attend or fill out an on-line application.
The EMT training program at Bevill State Community College consists of 10 Field of Concentration semester credit hours, with prerequisites such as psychology and EMS courses. The Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT-P), the Long-term certificate program, is a total of 47 credit hours and this also includes prerequisite classes such as math, English, psychology, and EMS courses.
Initial admission requirements for the EMT-Paramedic Certificate and the EMT Paramedic Associate in Applied Science Degree are the same at Bevill State Community College as that of EMT training. The EMT paramedic training program consists of 23 credits of general studies. The Field of Concentration credits are 54, making the program a total of 77 credits. The college requires a current EMT license prior to entering the EMT paramedic training school course.
This paramedic training school program will give students a strong foundation in areas such as anatomy, physiology and emergency pre-hospital patient care. This assures an EMT paramedic program graduate of Bevill State the professional EMT training and EMT Paramedic training necessary to obtain employment and be proficient in their work.
The curriculum provides a strong educational background in the area of anatomy and physiology and emergency pre-hospital care.
The EMT-Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs through the Joint Review Committee on Education Programs for the EMT-Paramedic.

The largest of Bevill State’s four main campuses, the Sumiton Campus is located in Walker County on 95 acres of beautiful rolling hills in Sumiton, Alabama, on Highway 78 West. The campus is a 30-minute drive northwest of Birmingham and is 15 minutes east of Jasper.
