UCLA/Daniel Freeman Paramedic Training Program

The UCLA Paramedic Program, previously known as the Daniel Freeman Paramedic Program, is now called UCLA/Daniel Freeman Paramedic Program and is part of the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care.

UCLA/Daniel Freeman Paramedic Program is a non-profit private institution, located in Inglewood, Los Angeles County, CA. The Daniel Freeman Hospital established one of the first paramedic programs in the country in 1970. Since then the program from the hospital has joined UCLA, Center for Hospital Care. Current highlights of this program include a 92% completion rate for students and a first time pass rating of 90% of the programs graduates. Recent statistics have students coming out with a 99% success rate on the National Registry Exam and a 97% employment rate within 3 months of graduation.

Program Schedule and information

UCLA/Daniel Freeman Paramedic Program has an EMT training program that begins with an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) entry-level patient care provider certification. This EMT training program is offered as an accelerated course, weekend courses or night class courses. Tuition course cost is $925. The program also offers other certifications such as CPR and EMT refresher courses.

There are three paramedic programs per year, beginning in January, May, and September. These paramedic training courses offered through UCLA are open to the public, as well as sponsored individuals. Applications for the September 2012 Paramedic Program must take the entrance exam BEFORE the March 23, 2012, application deadline. The course lasts for nine months and is a full time program. The course consists of a 16-week didactic phase, six-week clinical phase, and an eight to twelve week field internship.

The cost of the program is pre-paid tuition $9,500 or payment Plan $9,800 and $950 non-refundable deposit is required to enroll in the program. This does not include other associated expenses, such as textbooks, certification fees, college credit option, uniforms, etc. The estimated total cost, including tuition, is about $11,300.

Applications may be viewed online, however they cannot be completed online. Scholarships are available. Financial aid and GI loans are also available and accepted for financing the EMT training and EMT paramedic training programs. It is recommended you complete the application 6 months prior to the beginning of the program you are enrolling in.

2012 Program Dates

Start Date: August 27, 2024 approximately; Exact Didactic, Clinical, and Field Internship dates to be announced. Expected Graduation Date: May 2013
Entrance Exam Dates: January 30, February 16, and March 9
Applications are Due: Regular Application Period is Wednesday, February 1, 2024 - March 23, 2012.

Program Prerequisites

In order to be eligible for the paramedic training program, a student must have current EMT certification in the state of California. Certification must be maintained throughout the course of the program. Six months of work experience as an EMT basic is required. This work may include part-time, full-time, or volunteer work. Six months is the minimum requirement, with most applicants having at least a full year of full time employment. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and a current CPR card.

To apply for the program, a complete program application must be submitted along with all of the necessary supporting documents. In addition, applicants must take the HOBET (Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test) and receive a qualifying score. The application review may include an interview and the applicant must receive a score that qualifies.
A background check will be required to be completed before entrance into the courses and the individual must pass the check in order to gain entrance to the paramedic training program.
In addition to the back ground check, other documentations must be submitted if the individual receives official acceptance into the paramedic program. This includes:

• A physical
• A Healthcare Provider Evaluation & Mask Fit (Respirator) Testing
• Complete and updated record of immunizations
• Furnish proof of the following immunizations:
• Health insurance, which you must maintain throughout the program
