Victoria, Texas is home to Victoria College and is located just 50 miles away from the Gulf of Mexico. Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and Corpus Christi are all within a two hour drive from the campus. The city has the nickname of “The Crossroads” because it is located at the intersection of three major U.S. Highways.
Victoria College offers a certificate and associate’s degree plan for students interested in becoming paramedics. The programs will take approximately two years to complete. Twenty-five credit hours are completed in the first and second semesters. A summer session of 8 credit hours follows and the second year consists of 27 more credit hours.
The total cost for tuition per credit hour is $71 for students living in the county and $116 for those students that live outside the county.
Students must meet all of the requirements of Victoria College as found in the handbook for the school. A GPA of 2.0 or higher on any college courses that have been completed is required. A paramedic program package must be completed. Students must show a comprehensive knowledge of EMT basic by either completing the basic EMT course through Victoria College or with at least one year of work experience as an EMT. Documentation of EMT certification is required. Prospective students must set up and have an interview with the Program Coordinator. A criminal background check and a drug screen may be required before enrollment.
After a student has been accepted into the program they must submit records of TB skin test, tetanus shot, and vaccination records for MMR, and Varicella vaccinations. In addition, a three injection hepatitis B vaccination series must be given.
