College of the Mainland Paramedic Program

 

College of the Mainland has an EMT paramedic training program that offers students the necessary courses for certification at the EMT-Basic level on through to paramedic.

The college is located at 1200 Amburn Rd. in Texas City, Texas. The campus is located just off Gulf Fwy and is near Clear Creek Shores and Challenger 7 Memorial Park. The school offers an EMS training programs, as well as an associate degree program for those interested in becoming a paramedic.

Program Information

The paramedic school course consists of four semesters. The first semester will be EMT-basic instruction and clinical emergency medical technician, including an anatomy and physiology course as well as classroom and clinical instruction. The second semester begins the intro into advance practice of paramedic training. The third semester introduces pharmacology and involves clinicals as well. The final semester will consist of field experience as well as clinicals and classroom instruction. If students wish to obtain their associates degree for a paramedic training certification, there will be more classes required.

Program Prerequisites

The admission requirements for the paramedic certificate program offered through the College of the Mainland include completing the application to become a student at the college; this includes meeting all of the college requirements for admission.

Prospective EMS students must be in good health, show proof of a recent physical examination including a negative TB test or chest x-ray, and be up to date on immunizations, including the Hep B vaccination. Students will have to have a current CPR card at the health care provider level before attending clinicals. A background check will be submitted prior to clinicals as well.
