Program Information

The Paramedic training cycles begin annually in January and July. Though costs and fees are subject to change, currently applications fees are $50 and tuition is $6,050, which includes lab fees. Books and uniforms are not included in these fees.

PARAMEDIC Course 91 – Starts January 2012
Application Deadline is November 7, 2011
Application Testing: Tuesday, November 15 or Thursday, November 17 at 9 a.m.
Classes are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesday & Fridays – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Anatomy & Physiology is offered Tuesdays

Course length is 1,196 to 1,330 hours (without A&P), and students can usually finish in six months to ten months, due to the program’s flexible clinical/field rotation schedule.

Program Pre-requisites

To enter the Paramedic Academy training program a candidate must possess a:

• Current EMT-Basic or EMT-Intermediate certification
• Current Healthcare Provider – CPR Certification
• High School diploma, GED, or college transcript
• Documentation of reading level at 10th grade or above
• Basic EKG & IV Approval courses (EMT-Basic Applicants ONLY)

Anatomy & Physiology (College Level) is included in the program and not a requirement for admission. In addition, applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be scheduled for an EMT-Basic Knowledge/Assessment Test. A score of 80% or greater must be achieved in order to be considered for the paramedic training program. The EMS office will notify successful individuals by e-mail and/or regular mail of qualifying status.

The Academy provides field/clinical experience to all paramedic students.  Additional field experience is provided through affiliated EMS agencies in order to complete the certification requirements. Once paramedic training courses are successfully completed, certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Pediatric Education for Pre-Hospital Providers and International Trauma Life Support are awarded. Graduates of the Paramedic Academy are eligible to apply for certification with the National Registry of EMT Paramedics and the State of Colorado.
