California Phlebotomy School and Certification

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

In medicine phlebotomy is the process venipuncture or venepuncture which is the way of puncturing intravenously for the goal of drawing a sample of a patient’s blood. This job is be performed by medical practitioners, some Emergency Medical Technicians, paramedics and other nursing staff.

Phlebotomy education programs are a required part of the California healh care system. A great supply of educated phlebotomy students are always in demand in California.

California is one of only two states that require Phlebotomists to complete coursework and an externship before taking the national phlebotomy certification test. The years following the requirement passed the state has seen an increasing shortage of medical staff seeking the certification. Regan Career Institute’s Phlebotomy certification program aims to increase the number of qualified technicians in California.

Students in the Regan Career program will complete a 40-hour course in a real class and a 40-hour externship at a medical partner of RCI.

The phlebotomy track is just one way the college is beefing up its medical programs. RCI also is in the process of redirecting their IV/Blood Withdrawal and EKG/ECG learning programs as well as many more medical programs needed by today’s medically affiliated careers.

RCI’s CA Phlebotomy track was approved by the State of California’s LFS and after the 80 hours of classroom and externship time, students are more than ready to take the national certification exam.

LFS provides oversight for clinical and public health laboratory operations and for the licensing and certification of medical personnel in phlebotomy and other testing personnel who perform testing in clinical settings.

Consider a education in Phlebotomy today. Call the RCI phlebotomy program for knowledge.
