The City College of San Francisco offers a training program for individuals wishing to become a paramedic. The program takes place at the John Adams Campus, which is located at 1860 Hayes St in San Francisco. The campus is near the Golden Gate Panhandle Children’s playground and is right off Masonic Ave.

Program Schedule

The paramedic program offered through the City College of San Francisco begins each spring semester. Classes are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 5 pm. EMT 104, which is held in the spring semester, students will attend class for 12 Tuesdays consecutively, from 10 am to 4 pm. The summer semester consists of clinical hours, which are held at San Francisco General Hospital. The clinical hours will be spent in the ER, the psychiatric emergency services, labor and delivery, pediatrics, and the ICU. Rotations in an operating room of a contracted hospital will also be completed.

Tuition costs for the program are $26 per semester unit for residents of California and $183 per semester unit for non-residents. A $17 health benefit fee and a $100 lab fee will be assessed for all students. The cost of books for the program is approximately $500. In addition, there will be fees for PHTLS, PEPP, and ACLS certification and an optional fee for the field internship.

Program Prerequisites

A prospective student of the paramedic program offered through City College of San Francisco must have a high school diploma or equivalent, show proof of current immunizations, and have a current driver’s license in California. In addition, students must be EMT-1 certified and CPR certified, with AED training. Three to six months of field experience as an EMT is required. Individuals will be required to attend an informational meeting in the fall and to pass the written examination that is offered every two years in the fall.
