Southwestern College has an EMT paramedic training program that offers students the necessary courses for certification at the EMT-Basic level on through to EMT paramedic.
Southwestern College is located in Chula Vista, California. The campus is located near the Southwestern Estates College Shopping Center on Otay Lakes Road. The campus is near several restaurants and shopping areas. The campus is very easy to access from several main roads in town.
Southwestern offers both an associate degree program and a EMT paramedic training certificate of achievement for individuals choosing to become a paramedic. Both EMT training courses begin in the fall. From February to May you may obtain an application packet. EMT training classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis, which is determined by the date of when the application was submitted and complete. Only 24 students per class are accepted into the EMT training program. In order to complete the associate degree paramedic program, individuals will need to complete general education courses in order to graduate.
To qualify for either the associate degree or certificate program, students must complete a human anatomy and physiology course, either through Southwestern or from another approved school. In addition, students must have their EMT-1 license.
Applicants will be required to take college placement tests in math and reading or provide transcripts with course work that has been completed in the subjects. These required items must be submitted with your application in order to be considered for the program:
1. Application form
2. Verification of High School graduation
3. copy of your current EMT 1 certificate
4. copy of CPR card (must be current and at health care provider level)
5. Reading and Math test scores
6. Medical Terminology requirement: must have transcript showing two or three college level courses in the subject or enrollment verification in such courses or take the challenge test and receive a score of 75% or better.
7. Transcripts of completion of Anatomy and Physiology, grade “C” or better
8. Completion of all written tests as taken at the ASC
In addition, successful completion of an approved Paramedic Preparation class is now required.
