McCook Community College EMT Paramedic Training School Program

McCook Community College (MCC) was the first two-year college in Nebraska, offering a wide variety of programs in a small campus atmosphere. McCook Community College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The HLC is an independent corporation and one of two commission members of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). MCC is one of two campuses through its parent campus of Mid-Plains Community College.

EMT Enrollment Prerequisites

  • must have a valid driver’s license
  • have a high school diploma or the equivalent
  • must be 18 years of age
  • pass a physical examination
  • must pass a background check
  • must have current immunization records
  • must pass drug screening - and stay drug free
  • must be EMT certified prior to entering paramedic program
  • may not have received a dishonorable military discharge
  • must hold a current CPR card

McCook College offers an Emergency Medical Technician Diploma program consisting of 50.5 credit hours of EMT school training. MCC also offers an Emergency Medical Technician Services, AAS certification program that consists of a total of 65.5 credit hours of training. These courses lead a student to be able to enter the McCook Community College Paramedic School Program.

Paramedic Enrollment Prerequisites

Along with the above requirements, to enter the McCook Community College Paramedic School Program one must:

  • Fulfill MPCC General Admission Requirement
  • Complete application to MPCC specifying interest in Paramedic program
  • Submit official high school transcript or GED
  • Speak and understand the English language
  • Possess current National Registry or State EMT certification

The MCC paramedic program is offered on two timelines. The first is designed for the part-time, non-traditional student. This didactic training is presented two evenings a week and includes four hour class sessions over an 18-month period. Students who complete the program are then allowed up to 12 months to complete their clinical and field training at participating EMS facilities and locations. Once the EMS education and training is successfully completed, the student is eligible to sit for the National Registry Exam.

The paramedic school program at McCook Community College will include: anatomy and physiology, principles of microbiology, theory of patient assessment, management and operations assessment, theory of paramedic essentials to include airway management and ventilation, medical, OB/GYN, neonatal, behavior and trauma emergencies, and emergency medical services operations.

Each MCC paramedic school course follows the requirements for Nebraska EMS training course certification.

Accelerated Paramedic Education Program Outline

The EMT paramedic school program offered through McCook Community College is also offered as a 12-Week accelerated classroom Paramedic Diploma Program consisting of 42 credit hours. MCC also is offering an optional A.A.S degree at MCC.

McCook Community College’s 12-week Accelerated Paramedic Program at is designed to provide the required classroom training for education and skills sets to develop competent Paramedics. The accelerated version of the paramedic training consolidates the didactic training in which the students attend class 40 contact hours during this 12 week program.

The Accelerated Paramedic Program clinical and field requirements are very same as the traditional programs, also requiring 230 hours clinical hours and 200 field contact hours. Students partaking in the Accelerated Paramedic Program are given one year to compete the didactic, clinical, and field portions of the course.

Additional Program Information

For 2017-2018 academic year tuition cost: $9,594. This fee includes resident tuition and fees, textbooks, housing, meals, and program fees.

Non-Resident tuition cost: $10,770. This fee includes textbooks, housing, meals, and program fees.
