Austin Community College EMT Paramedic Program
Austin Community College offers three different levels of awards in EMS professions. These are an associate’s degree in EMS technology, Level one certificate in EMS technology-EMT intermediate, and a certificate in EMS technology-paramedic. The programs are taught on the Eastview campus, which is located at 3401 Webberville Road. The location is just off North Pleasant Valley Road; Oak Springs Elementary school is nearby.
Program Schedule
The advanced paramedic training program offered through the college consists of five semesters. The first semester will consist of 12 hours of lecture and 10 hours of lab each week. Second semester consists of 10 hours or lecture, 7 hours of lab, and 12 clinical hours. The third semester is nine hours of lecture and 3 hours of lab. The fourth semester is 13 hours of lecture, 9 lab hours, and 12 clinical hours. The final semester will consist of 14 hours of lecture, 4 lab hours, and 17 clinical hours. Students can enroll for the course each semester. Only those who have met the prerequisites for the course will be accepted.
The total cost for the EMT paramedic program is estimated to be around $7,888 for in state residents, $14,230 for out of state residents, and $19638 for international students. This does not include the cost for books, uniforms, and other extras, such as immunization fees. The estimated cost for all of these extras is approximately $2151 for all students.
Program Prerequisites
In order to apply for and be accepted into the EMT training program students must meet the following requirements:
1. Current EMT Basic certification or enrollment in an EMT-Basic Course
2. Students must complete an information session online
3. Proof of scores or completion of basic Math and English courses,
or students may take the Compass to meet these requirements
4. A completed application printed from the information session
5. Must have recently certified in CPR through an American Heart Association class at a healthcare provider level
6. Students must pass a criminal background check.
Upon acceptance into the EMT training program, students must show proof of current immunizations and complete a technical standards examination.
