Paramedic Careers: Casino Jobs

"...Code Red...Code Red...." crackles across the push-to-talk phone on the paramedic's belt. "Front right quadrant...copy?" The paramedic pulls the phone from his belt and holds it to his mouth, "Ten-four...copy." Re-holstering the phone, the paramedic grabs a leather bag from the counter and hustles out into the dimly lit, noisy floor of the casino.

Making his way through the crowd, he is joined by a security guard. Approaching the right quadrant of the gaming floor, they can see the crowd gathering. Security clears the way for the paramedic who quickly begins work on the unconscious patron on the floor.

Yes, the work of a paramedic can be very challenging, but also very exciting. To begin with, a paramedic can certainly mean the difference between life and death for a person in crisis. Wherever there are crowds of people, there is a need for paramedics and the casino is no exception.

I live in a town with casinos only a ten minute drive away and I can tell you that before licensed paramedics were hired to work in the casino, there was a constant run of ambulances 24/7. Now, paramedics handle the minor things and call an ambulance when it is necessary and that is a big relief to the community.

Being a paramedic in a casino is not really much different than being a paramedic in an ambulance except that you are not out driving. There is enough action on a gaming floor to keep a team of paramedics busy around the clock. I know a paramedic at a one of the casinos who had many years working on an ambulance. He really likes the set up of a casino as far as shifts. He works a regular shift like any other worker instead of 24 hour shifts. He says his wife likes it a lot better too. He also appreciates the environment and ambiance that he states affects his mood.

If you are a licensed paramedic or looking at becoming one and you live near casinos, maybe this type of working circumstance would be something you would enjoy. At least, it is another employment option.
