(See campus information below)
Training levels and their campuses:
1. Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMS), which is a Short-term Certificate. This EMT training program is available at the Bevill State Fayette, Hamilton & Sumiton Campuses.

The Emergency Medical Technician program at Bevill State Community College is designed to provide the training necessary for successful completion of the requirements for certification as an EMT paramedic (Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic -EMT-P). The program enables the student to take the National Registry Exam. Upon completion of EMT paramedic training and successful passing of the exam, the student can obtain an Alabama EMT paramedic license.
Applicants to both the EMT Training – Basic program and the paramedic training program must:
• pass a minimum composite score of 19 on the ACT exam
• be a high school graduate
• comply with the Essential Functions of the program
• provide a current (within the last 6 months) physical exam
• have up-to-date immunizations

In addition, applicants who have completed their education and plan to advance to the paramedic training program must possess a valid, unencumbered Alabama Advanced-EMT license prior to entering the clinical portion of the EMT-Paramedic course. The individual must also possess a current CPR card.
The training curriculum at Bevill State Community College consists of 10 Field of Concentration semester credit hours, with prerequisites such as psychology and EMS courses. The Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (EMT-P), the Long-term certificate program, is a total of 47 credit hours and this also includes prerequisite classes such as math, English, psychology, and EMS courses.
The curriculum provides a strong educational background in the area of anatomy and physiology and emergency pre-hospital care.
Application & Paramedic Information
You may submit a printed application by mail or in person to the Office of Student Services on the campus you plan to attend or fill out an on-line application.
Initial admission requirements for the EMT-Paramedic Certificate and the Paramedic Associate in Applied Science Degree are the same at Bevill State Community College as that of EMT training. The paramedic training program consists of 23 credits of general studies. The Field of Concentration credits are 54, making the program a total of 77 credits. The college requires a current EMT license prior to entering the paramedic training school course.
This paramedic school program will give students a strong foundation in areas such as anatomy, physiology and emergency pre-hospital patient care. This assures a paramedic program graduate of Bevill State the professional training necessary to obtain employment and be proficient in their work.
The school coursework is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs through the Joint Review Committee on Education Programs for the EMT-Paramedic.
